"I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people...” (Luke 2:10)
When my daughter was born this year, the gift of this delicate newborn filled me with a joy words can not express. I'd savour the moments cradling her into the nook of my arm, watching the rise and fall of breath, while gazing at her tiny untouched feet that had not yet set foot on the earth. It gave a fresh perspective to the words Paul quotes of Isaiah, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring the good news!” (Romans 10:15).
How beautiful indeed are the feet of babes who are just beginning the journey of bringing a Gospel of joyful love to people by just being who they are created to be. This is particularly poignant at Christmas. The good news comes to us as an infant child born to us this day as we celebrate the new life the baby Jesus has brought into the world. Often good news comes to us in unexpected ways, as God did through a child. Coming as something smaller and weaker, while being infinitely more powerful and merciful. Coming to us so that we may walk in newness of life, this day and forever more.
Loving God, we thank you for the gift of your Son who came to rekindle a love among us born in the infancy of life. A love that grew to know no ends. Amen
